I was hoping, nay… praying, that we would be recession proof but we aren’t. Sometimes, life just sucks. Hubby went in to the office today and found out that we are basically going to be without a pay check for at a minimum, a month and a half to two months. When you are self-employed it is even tougher since the government still expects you to make the same amount of money you normally do and they want their money in regular installments.

Now we aren’t stupid. We don’t live above our means and we have money left in savings but that usually goes for taxes and emergencies. We learned years ago when our children were small to keep a majorly stocked pantry that we could live out of and we have never stopped doing that even after the children grew up and left so we won’t starve to death. But, and it’s a big but, being self-employed means no un-employment benefits, no help with medical or dental insurance, no discounts on prescriptions (which I have and cost $$$) and not a whole lot of stuff we can cut back on.

We have survived bad times before. We have started over before, just not in our 50’s. I’m not asking for sympathy or anything, just having a bit of a rant and a “oh – damn it’ moment.

We aren’t going to panic at this point but, sometimes… life just sucks.
